The overall objective of this work package is to develop, prototype and test the control electronics system for the WINDUR turbine, under the leadership of Ghent University. The development of novel control algorithms for a variable speed control system for a vertical axis wind turbine will be undertaken. A complete power control system will be implemented, for an on-grid turbine, according to the technical specifications established in work package 1.
Specific technical objectives:
– To develop algorithms for a variable speed control system based on maximum power point tracking (MPPT).
– To implement a power control system for variable speed operation of an on-grid vertical axis wind turbine.
– To validate the power control system in the laboratory.
– To design and prepare for integration in work package 5 a complete power electronics system according to the technical specifications defined in work package 1, including commercial components and novel developments from WINDUR in the power control solutions.
